To restore confidence, dignity, and cultural respect in foster and adoptive youth through proper hair care, education, and community support.

Program Objectives

• Provide culturally competent hair care for foster and adoptive youth
• Educate caregivers on textured and natural hair maintenance
• Reduce placement stress related to grooming and appearance
• Promote self-esteem, identity, and belonging in children
• Create a trusted hair care resource within Florida’s child welfare system

Core Program Components

1. Hair Care Services for Youth

• Braiding, twists, loc maintenance, grooming

• Gentle, trauma-informed service environment

• Age-appropriate styles promoting confidence

 

2. Caregiver Education Workshops

Topics include:

• Detangling without pain or trauma

• Moisture and scalp health

• Protective styles vs tension

• What NOT to do with textured hair

• Cultural sensitivity in hair care

 

3. Hair Care Starter Kits

Includes:

• Moisturizer

• Oil or leave-in

• Comb/brush

• Head wrap/satin bonnet

• Educational card

 

4. Community & Agency Partnerships

• Foster agency collaboration

• Group home support

• Adoption agency education

• School & youth program integration
